Eddy Music: Beginnings

For me, winter is like an intermission. It is the off season, the time between the championship of autumn and hopefulness of spring. The true beginning of any new fishing year for me is anchored at some floating date in March, perhaps coinciding with the first sighting of a Blue Wing Olive (saw the first one last Friday, by the way) or the first time I catch a fish in an un-winter lie, like a riffle.

Like a fishing season, any album worth its megabytes should contain a great opener. A song that you immediately look forward to when you slide the disc in the car CD player or hit play on the album title in your player. A song that makes you think of the rest of the album, or sometime in your life when you kept sliding in the same disc, letting play over and over. reliving it in your mind, like that first blue wing that kicks off the rest of the season.

In honor of beginnings and blue wings and spring and floating undetermined days in March, here is The Eddy's choice for great album openers. Like fishing seasons that start out great but bog down in July, not all these albums lived up to their beginnings, but they sure started great. I went a little crazy and listed 20. I just kept finding good ones.

Full Disclosure Alert: Just like always, if you click through the links you’ll arrive at the Amazon Mp3 page for the song (or album) you clicked on. If you purchase, The Eddy gets a small commission.

  2. Anthony, well I certainly think so, but I am not sure how Neil Diamond would feel about it.
